Congratulations to the library’s new citizens and citizenship scholarship winners! Nineteen members of the library’s citizenship preparation class recently became United States citizens and were recognized as part of A Celebration of Literacy in June. Our new citizens represent 10 countries from around the world and speak 4 languages.
Joining us to offer words of welcome and congratulations were Representative for NYS Governor Kathy Hochul, Thalia Olaya, Senator Dean Murray, Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano, Legislator Jim Mazzarella, Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico, and Town Councilmember Karen Dunne Kesnig. Thank you to William Floyd High School, the Stage Crew, NJROTC Color Guard students for presenting the flags, choral students for singing the National Anthem, and the Latin Dance Team.
Congratulations to the library’s adult language learners for earning Certificates of Achievement for their hard work throughout the school year. Thank you to the Literacy Department’s staff, instructors, enrichment aides, Reading Buddies, and everyone who helps make our program a success!
Consider giving the gift of citizenship:
Community Family Literacy Project, Inc. (CFLP), a 501c3 organization, awards scholarships to adult library patrons who are studying to pass the United States Naturalization exam. We were fortunate to award seven scholarships this year and are seeking donations for next year! An application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services cost $760. Your tax-deductible contribution, in any amount, as an individual or group, publicly or anonymously, is a meaningful gift.
