Citizenship Program at MMSCL
The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library offers many resources to help residents of William Floyd School District on the path to Naturalization:
- Free citizenship preparation class
- Free one-on-one informational appointments to discuss the general citizenship process and how to prepare for the citizenship test
- Please note: no legal advice is given or offered at appointments
- Free one-on-one Citizenship Interview practice sessions
- Citizenship Corner
- Located on the lower level of the library by the Literacy office
- Test preparation materials including books, flashcards, a legal services brochure, and more

Citizenship Preparation Class
Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library patrons can join the Citizenship Preparation Class to prepare for the Naturalization interview and review topics on the civics test.
- Register in the Literacy Department
- Classes are
held at William Floyd High School on Wednesdays
- 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in English
- 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Spanish (for eligible patrons)
- Classes follow the William Floyd School District calendar and run September – May
- Open enrollment is available during the school year
To be eligible to take the Citizenship Preparation Class, students should be able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
- Have you been a lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) of the U.S. for at least 5 years (3 years if married to a U.S. citizen)?
- Are you in the process of applying for United States citizenship or have you already applied?
- Are you able to read, write, and speak intermediate English?
- Will you be able to attend all classes after you register?
- Do you have a Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library card?
