Have you ever been to Bayview Park? It’s down in Mastic Beach, just south of Neighborhood Rd at the 5 corners intersection, located at 241 Bayview Dr, Mastic Beach, NY 11951. If you have, you may have seen the blue historic marker on the site. This park was once the site of the Richard Floyd Estate, which was named Pattersquas, after the Pattersquash Creek south-east of the park site.
The estate belonged to Richard Floyd IV, cousin to William Floyd, from 1760 to 1784. At the time, the property consisted of 3,000 acres! The Pattersquas estate was a private residence until 1947. The estate was repurposed as a hospital, which was named Bayview Hospital. It remained a hospital until 1982. Unfortunately, in 1986 the house was destroyed by a fire.
