Here are the last folks to occupy the Mastic Beach William Floyd Estate as a private residence. John Treadwell Nichols 1883- 1958 & his wife, Cornelia Floyd Nichols 1886-1977. The Nichols are canoeing on what appears to be Lon’s or Home Creek here. John was a naturalist and a longtime curator at the Museum Of Natural History. He wed Cornelia Dubois Floyd in 1910 at the Floyd estate. Cornelia a direct descendant of William Floyd (the signer) remained on the estate after John’s passing and deeded it to United States Government National Parks Service who took possession after she died. It became a museum and is part of the Fire Island National Seashore.
